Greenwood School District 50 Notified of Frontline Education Cybersecurity Incident

Posted Date: 10/05/26 (04:00 PM)

Greenwood School District 50 was recently notified by Frontline Education, a third-party service provider the district uses, of a cybersecurity incident involving Frontline’s systems. The incident affected several other South Carolina school districts statewide.  To be clear, the district has not experienced a cybersecurity incident.

According to information from Frontline, the incident resulted from a vulnerability in a third-party software product used by Frontline that allowed unauthorized access to part of its environment. The incident occurred within Frontline’s systems and was not the result of a cybersecurity breach of Greenwood School District 50’s network or systems.

Frontline informed the district that information associated with approximately 16,678 current and former students was impacted. The information Frontline identified may include Medicaid identification numbers, email addresses, and mailing addresses. Frontline has stated that it is not aware of any misuse of the information as a result of the incident.

The district takes the privacy and security of student information seriously and is currently working with Frontline, the S.C. Law Enforcement Division, and the district’s legal counsel to review the incident, its impact on our students and families, and the appropriate next steps.

Frontline has indicated it will notify affected individuals in accordance with the law and offer identity protection services at no cost, including appropriate monitoring services for minors. We will provide additional information about those resources directly to affected individuals.

We understand that incidents involving personal information can create concern for families. Greenwood School District 50 will continue working with Frontline and legal counsel to ensure stakeholders receive accurate, timely information as it becomes available.

Individuals with questions may contact Frontline directly at 1-833-516-8792.
